After that, you’ll be brought into the game where the first few levels work as a tutorial.Word Play. The main focus of the gameplay is the word grid.
The core of the gameplay resembles a word find puzzle. You’ll press and drag your finger from letter to letter forming words.
Words can be spelled forward or backward and in any direction, provided that each letter is adjacent to the one before it, including diagonals. Each word you form must be at least three letters long, and each letter tile will be destroyed after it is used once. Once tiles are destroyed, the above tiles will fall into the empty space and new tiles will drop from the top of the screen. If you create a word of four or more letters, one of the tiles will remain on the board and turn into a bonus letter. These special tiles will help you earn a ton of points in a small amount of time. Tiles that are a solid color will explode upon use and destroy all adjacent tiles.
On the other hand, tiles that feature arrows pointing out the sides will destroy the entire line of tiles in the direction the arrows are pointing. Long words and bonus tiles are great ways to rack up points. Each stage will grade you between zero and three stars based on how many points you earn. Earning the first star is typically as simple as completing the objective, while the other two stars will require a higher score. To help with this, most rounds end with random tiles becoming bonus spots, then exploding, netting you points for every letter destroyed. There are various power-ups that will be unlocked during the course of the game.
Some can be set before a level, while others can be used freely during the puzzle. The game does a wonderful job at showing off these power-ups, and as you dig deeper, you’re sure to find something worthwhile.Game Types and The Map. Stages progress linearly in Words of Wonder. Each chapter of the game contains fifteen stages, and each one must be cleared before the next one is unlocked. Once all fifteen stages in a chapter are complete, you can unlock the next chapter, which requires either premium currency payment or friends lending you their assistance by connecting with them on the app. Stages consist of varying objectives.
There are four common goals during the course of the game. There are two score modes, one which requires a set number of points in a set number of words and another one that provides a strict time limit to score points. Another game type involves dropping non-playable quill blocks from the top of the screen to the bottom by clearing all letters below. Finally “Clear the ink” places blue ink on certain spots, requiring you to use a letter in that location to clean it up. Your actions in the game are somewhat limited by an energy system. Playing a puzzle consumes ten energy points, but that is immediately earned back if you complete the required objectives.
Essentially, you have unlimited energy as long as you’re finding success!Tips and Tricks. Unlike a lot of word games, there’s really no benefit in finding a ton of short words instead of a few long ones in most game types. Because of time’s lack of importance in all but the timer stages, your score will be much higher if you take the time to look for words at least four letters long and utilize the resulting bonus letters.
You can chain bonus letters into bonus letters, as well. Typically, the bonus letter will form on the last letter of a word. If this letter remains surrounded by useful letters, you can keep re-forming the same bonus letter over and over. This is ideal with the letter “S” because you can easily add it to the end of other words. When you’ve found a word, take a look to see if there are any other letters you can add.
“S,” “ED,” and “ING” are all excellent groups to add to the end, while “DE” and “RE” can frequently fit on the front of many words. This is a quick way to add more points and create bonus tiles.
For example, look at the following image. “PET” (circled in red) is an acceptable word, but “TED” (circled in blue) can be added to the end to spell “PETTED,” a much better play. When playing with the quill drop or ink cleaning objectives, it may be tempting to spend each turn trying to meet the objective as soon as possible. However, you will often be better off playing away from there at times in order to create bonus tiles and shift the letters around to set up better plays.Congratulations! You have completed Gamezebo’s quick start guide for Words of Wonder. Lady wasp, Annoying Ads Are Gone. Fun Again!Thank you! I played this for years and it was my favorite word game.
Until, that is, it became inundated with ads and I sadly deleted it as it was no longer fun with needless constant interruptions. BUT after 4-6 years hiatus I decided to see if it was better. I got through Chapter 1 without a single ad.
I might change my review if the ads come back further in the game but so far so good and I’m very happy to be playing it again.UPDATE I spoke too soon. Ads appearing in Chapter 2 after each game. Fun factor declining.
Lcilc, The ads are awful! Now you are forced to sit through 30 second advertisements! Please make the ads go away-they will never inspire me to purchase anything.they are more of an annoyance than anything! I enjoy playing this game because it's somewhat challenging to make words, but I will not pay real money to play. The other option is to join Facebook which I also refuse to do! I don't understand why Facebook has to get their grubby hands into every possible facet of life-it's just disgusting! Developer Response,Please note that the Ads team has made improvements to the ad loading screen and the delay has been reduced.
Thank you for your patience as we are actively tending to the game. As always, should you have any other questions or concerns in the game, please be sure to submit a new ticket so that we can respond in a timely fashion to your ticket. Deepfriedshoeleather, Worst customer service everI am rating this a one Star even though it is my favorite game and I have played it forever. Because ever since the latest iOS update it will not load and play on my iPhone. I have contacted “support” over and over again with no response, and no improvement.
I have deleted it and reinstalled it many times. It will not open, load or play.
Just the ROCK YOU LOGO page flashes up and closes.I really wish they would fix this because I miss playing the game.
